About CrateWire
We identify the tracks DJs play on Instagram.
CrateWire is a music-discovery web app for working DJs and crate-diggers. It reads a DJ's public Instagram posts, identifies the tracks in them, and surfaces them in a cross-DJ “what's new” feed — with a confidence score on every single ID, so you always know how sure the match is.
What CrateWire is
Finding the record a DJ just played used to mean scrubbing the caption, scrolling the comments for an “ID?” thread, and Shazaming a blended, talked-over clip that consumer apps choke on. CrateWire does that work for you, continuously, across every DJ you follow.
You add a DJ by their Instagram handle. CrateWire watches their public posts, runs each new one through its detection pipeline, and adds every identified track to a running, searchable tracklist. A cross-DJ feed shows what's rising across the DJs you follow, so you catch a record the moment several of your selectors start spinning it.
To be precise about who we are: CrateWire is a DJ track-identification web app. It is not a record store, a streaming service, or a casino — it is a tool for working out what music DJs are playing and where to find it.
How detection works
No single signal is trustworthy on its own, so CrateWire runs a waterfall of four sources over every public post. Each one casts a vote; the cheapest, most reliable evidence is tried first, and later sources catch what the earlier ones miss.
Instagram music data
The track sticker or audio attribution a DJ tags on a reel is the cleanest signal we get.
Captions
Track names and artist tags written into the post copy, parsed and normalized.
Fan comments
The "track ID?" threads fans leave often hold the answer the DJ never posted.
Audio fingerprinting
When the text runs out, we listen to the audio itself and match it against references.
The candidates from those sources are then reconciled: matches that name the same track are grouped, and their evidence is blended into a single confidence score. Independent sources agreeing — a fingerprint and the DJ's own reply, say — is far stronger than either alone. A track only surfaces once its blended confidence clears a threshold, so a weak, single-source guess reads as weak rather than masquerading as fact. We're honest about the limit, too: a brand-new unreleased ID that exists nowhere yet can't be identified by any tool until it's released or revealed.
Who it's for
CrateWire is built for working DJs and serious crate-diggers who follow specific selectors and want to know what they're playing — especially the smaller and local DJs whose sets never get transcribed into a community database. We only ever read public Instagram content, and every track ID is presented as best-effort, scored by confidence, never as a flat yes or no.
