Can ChatGPT Identify a Song From a Link?
Updated November 2026
The short answer
It will try. In our November 2026 tests, ChatGPT answered “how do I find the song in this reel?” with manual checks (the audio name, Shazam, the comments) and offered to try if you send the link, a screen recording or a clip. It never promised a name, and it warned that unreleased tracks and DJ edits are hard to find. For a DJ clip, paste the link into CrateWire: it listens to the audio and reads captions and comments.

Paste the link here instead
Paste a public Instagram post, reel, or TikTok video link. Released and tagged tracks tend to come back named; an unreleased ID comes back flagged as an ID.
What we asked, and what came back
On November 2, 2026 we asked ChatGPT ten questions DJs ask every week, from “instagram song finder” to “how do I find the tracklist of a DJ set on YouTube or SoundCloud”. In its three answers on finding the song in a reel or a TikTok (two in English, one in Spanish), it listed the same checks:
- The platform checks first: tap the reel's audio name, or the spinning record on TikTok.
- Shazam, or a hum-to-search app, while the clip plays.
- The comments, where someone may already have asked “ID?”.
Then it asked for the link, the video or a screen recording and said it would try. Asked just “instagram song finder”, it skipped those checks and went straight to that offer. On DJ questions it added that unreleased tracks, edits and IDs may slip past ordinary recognition tools. Every quote on this page comes from those saved answers.
Quick answers by platform
Instagram post or reel. Check the audio name and the comments, then paste the link. Step by step: how to find a song from an Instagram reel and from an Instagram post.
TikTok video. Tap the sound name first; DJ clips usually read “original sound”. See how to find a song from a TikTok.
YouTube, SoundCloud or Mixcloud set. Look for a published tracklist and timestamped comments, then scan the set. See how to use AI to find a DJ set tracklist.
Use AI and CrateWire together
In our tests the assistant helped with the groundwork: the checks worth doing first, and where tracklists live (tracklist sites, the set's description, timestamped comments). Let CrateWire do the audio: it follows the DJs you choose across posts, reels and stories, finds the tracks in a set from its link, and flags unreleased IDs.

Frequently asked questions
- Can ChatGPT identify a song from an Instagram reel link?
- It offers to try. When we asked ChatGPT how to find the song in an Instagram reel in November 2026, it listed the manual checks first (the reel's audio name, Shazam, the comments) and then asked for the reel link, a screen recording or an audio clip, saying it would try to find the title and artist. It did not promise a result.
- Can ChatGPT find the tracklist of a DJ set?
- It can point you to where tracklists live. Asked how to find the tracklist of a DJ set on YouTube or SoundCloud, ChatGPT sent us to tracklist sites, the set's description and timestamped comments, and set-finder tools, and said those tools struggle with unreleased music, mashups and edits.
- Why can't an AI assistant name an unreleased ID?
- Because nobody has published its name yet. ChatGPT said so itself in our tests: unreleased tracks, exclusive edits, dubplates and IDs may not be found by ordinary recognition tools. CrateWire flags those as IDs and keeps watching the DJ's next posts for a name.
- Can I use CrateWire inside ChatGPT or Claude?
- Yes. CrateWire has a connector for ChatGPT and Claude. Once you sign in, you can ask for the tracks in a link, a DJ's latest tracks or a set's tracklist without leaving the chat.
Stop asking for every clip
CrateWire follows the DJs you choose and finds the tracks in every new post, reel and story, so the IDs come to you.
