How to Use AI to Identify Songs in Instagram Posts, Reels and TikTok Videos

Updated November 2026

The short answer

Ask an AI assistant for the song in an Instagram post, reel or TikTok video and, in our November 2026 tests, ChatGPT sent you to the audio name, Shazam and the comments, then offered to try if you send the link. On DJ clips it warned that unreleased tracks and edits are hard to find. For those, paste the link into CrateWire: it listens to the audio and reads captions and comments.

Try it now

Paste the post, reel or TikTok link

Paste a public Instagram post, reel, or TikTok video link. Released and tagged tracks tend to come back named; an unreleased ID comes back flagged as an ID.

What the assistant suggests

We asked ChatGPT “how to find a song from an Instagram reel” and “how to find the song in a TikTok video” on November 2, 2026. Both answers had the same shape:

  • Tap the audio name under the reel, or the spinning record on TikTok.
  • Let Shazam or a hum-to-search app listen while the clip plays.
  • Read the comments for an “ID?” thread.
  • Or send it the link, a screen recording or a clip, and it will try.

That is sound advice for a clean, released track with its audio tagged. The step-by-step versions live in our reel guide, post guide and TikTok guide.

Where it stops

ChatGPT was clear about its own limit: if the track is unreleased, an exclusive edit, a dubplate or an ID, ordinary recognition tools might not find it. That is most of what DJs post. A booth clip often reads “Original audio”, the caption says nothing, and the track has no release to match yet.

When nobody can name it, it is an ID, not a dead end. Our guide on what “ID” means in a DJ set explains how those get solved.

Paste the link into CrateWire

CrateWire listens to the audio and reads captions and comments, then returns the tracks it can name. A carousel post gets checked slide by slide. A track nobody has named comes back flagged as an ID, and if you follow the DJ, CrateWire keeps watching their next posts, reels and stories.

Or ask from the chat

Already working in ChatGPT or Claude? Add the CrateWire connector and ask “What tracks are in this reel?” with the link. Setup: use CrateWire in ChatGPT and Claude.

Frequently asked questions

Can I ask ChatGPT what song is in an Instagram reel?
You can, and in our November 2026 tests it answered with the manual checks (the reel's audio name, Shazam, the comments) and an offer to try if you send the link, a screen recording or a clip. Treat that as a starting point: it did not promise a name.
What about a TikTok video?
Same pattern. ChatGPT told us to tap the spinning record or sound name, use Shazam or a hum-to-search app, and check the comments, then offered to try with the video or a screen recording.
Why does the AI not find the song in a DJ clip?
DJ clips are often unreleased tracks, edits or blends, and ChatGPT warned that ordinary recognition tools may not find those. CrateWire listens to the audio and reads captions and comments, and flags a track nobody has named yet as an ID.
Does a carousel with several songs work?
In CrateWire, yes: it checks each slide of a carousel post and lists the tracks it finds per slide.

Follow the DJ, not one clip

CrateWire follows the DJs you choose and finds the tracks in every new post, reel and story, so you stop pasting links one by one.
