How we count
A play is one DJ posting one track on one day. We identify tracks in the public Instagram posts, reels, carousels and stories of the DJs in the CrateWire catalog, using the song Instagram attaches to the post, the audio itself (audio fingerprinting), the caption and the comments, and a track only counts once the evidence lines up. A DJ who posts the same record in a reel and in five story frames on the same day (UTC) has played it once.
Tracks are ranked by how many different DJs played them during the month, then by plays. Tracks level on both share a rank and are listed by artist name. A track needs at least two DJs to be listed.
A DJ here is an Instagram account in the CrateWire catalog that we check on a schedule. Accounts that are not DJs, such as repost pages, clubs, labels, record stores and media, are left out of every number, and so are accounts a signed out visitor typed in once and nobody followed, and accounts that are private today. We only name a DJ who has a public tracklist page of their own, so a track can have more DJs behind it than names next to it.
The month runs from the 1st at 00:00 UTC to the 1st of the next month at 00:00 UTC, and a post belongs to the month the DJ posted it. The numbers freeze on the 8th of the following month, which gives the accounts we check once a week time to be read. Anything found after that is never added back, so a figure quoted from this page does not change.
This is a view of what DJs post on Instagram, not of what is played in clubs or streamed. It leans toward the DJs in our catalog and toward tracks that can be named from a short clip, so unreleased IDs and edits are often missing.
The catalog grew through 2026, most of it from September on, so earlier months rest on fewer DJs than later ones and are not published.
This month was computed on Oct 18, 2026, after its usual freeze date, so it also counts older posts from DJs added to the catalog later.
