The short answer

To find the songs in a YouTube video, paste its link into the finder above. It works on DJ sets, mixes, radio shows and livestream recordings of 10 minutes or more: we look the set up online for a tracklist somebody already published, and when there is none we listen to the audio in 30-second windows and name what we hear. Your first scan lists the first 3 songs we name. On a plan, the tracklist also shows the time each song we matched in the audio starts. A music video or a YouTube Short usually runs under 10 minutes, so it is not a job for this finder: for one song, playing it next to Shazam on your phone is the quicker answer.

How to find a song in a YouTube video

  1. On YouTube, tap Share under the video and choose Copy link.
  2. Paste it in the field at the top of this page.
  3. Wait while we look the set up online and, when we have to, listen to it.
  4. Read the songs we named. On a plan, a song matched in the audio also shows the time it starts.

Built for mixed and talked-over audio

DJ sets are the hard case for a song finder: tracks blend for a minute at a time, get pitched to match, and sit under a crowd or an MC. We listen in 30-second windows back to back, so no stretch of the part we scan goes unheard, and on a plan the tracklist shows where each song we name from the audio starts.

Where each way wins

Shazam is the right tool for one clean song playing near you. A set is a different job: the songs run into each other for an hour or more.

Frequently asked questions

How do I find a song from a YouTube video?
Paste the video's link into the finder at the top of this page. For a DJ set, mix or long recording of 10 minutes or more, we look the set up online and listen to the audio, then list the songs we name. For a music video or a short clip, playing it next to Shazam on your phone is the quicker answer.
Can you Shazam a YouTube video?
Yes, by playing it out loud next to the Shazam app, one song at a time. That works on a clean, released track. On a DJ set the songs are blended into each other, so you would sit through the set with your phone up and still miss the blends. The finder above takes the link instead and works through the set for you.
Does it work on YouTube Shorts and music videos?
Not yet. The set scanner listens to DJ mixes of 10 minutes or more. A Short or a music video is shorter than that, so the field takes the link but the scan stops before it listens, and the page tells you so.
Which YouTube links work?
Video links from youtube.com, the youtu.be links the Share button copies, and music.youtube.com links, one at a time. A playlist or a YouTube radio mix is refused in the field; open one set and paste its link. SoundCloud and Mixcloud links work here too.
Is the YouTube song finder free?
Your first scan is free when capacity allows and shows the first 3 tracks it names. Scans after that run on a plan, starting with a 7-day Digger trial; Digger covers 6 hours of sets a month.
Why do some songs come back unnamed?
Recognition can only name audio that already sits in a database. Unreleased tracks, bootlegs and a DJ's own edits do not. Your first scan lists only the songs we could name, so a mix full of unreleased music can come back with few names or none. On a plan, the tracklist also marks where the unnamed tracks sit, with their start times.
Do I get the time each song starts?
On a plan, yes, for songs we matched in the audio: each comes with the time it starts, so you can jump to it. A tracklist somebody already published comes through with whatever times its author typed in, which can be none. Your first scan shows the first 3 song names, without times.
