How to Shazam a DJ Set from YouTube, SoundCloud or Mixcloud

Updated October 2026

The short answer

To Shazam a DJ set, you have four options. Leave Shazam listening on your phone with Auto Shazam while the set plays. Use music recognition on the computer that is playing it. Read the timestamps other listeners left under the set. Or paste the set's link into a finder that listens to it for you. The first two work one song at a time and miss the blends; the last two work from the set itself.

Method 1: Auto Shazam on your phone

Auto Shazam keeps the Shazam app listening, so it tries to identify the songs playing around you until you turn it off.

  1. Open Shazam and touch and hold the Shazam button to turn on Auto Shazam. On Android, choose continuous mode and tap Confirm.
  2. Play the set out loud near the phone.
  3. Leave it running, even if you switch to another app; the songs it identifies collect in your Shazam library, grouped by date.

It hears the room, not the file, so blends, pitched tracks and talking over the music make it miss, and a two-hour set means two hours of playing it out loud.

Method 2: Music recognition on the computer playing the set

On a Mac, add Music Recognition to Control Center, play the set through the speakers or your headphones, then open Control Center and click Recognize Music while a song plays. In the Shazam app for Mac, Auto Shazam keeps listening too: double-click the Shazam button at the top of your list of songs.

In Chrome, Shazam's browser extension identifies songs from your web browser.

It saves you the second device, but it still names one song at a time from what is playing, so the blends between tracks are where it misses.

Method 3: Read the timestamps listeners leave

Read the timestamps other listeners left under the set.

  1. On YouTube, check the description, where an uploader can list timestamps that turn into chapters, and the pinned comment at the top of the comments.
  2. On SoundCloud, listeners leave comments at an exact moment of the track, just below the waveform, so look for an ID question at the drop you want and read the replies.
  3. On Mixcloud, look for the tracklist the uploader added, with the time each track starts. Mixcloud does not build one from the audio, so a show without one has nothing to read.

It costs nothing, but you only get what people wrote: a new upload or a quiet one often has no answers yet.

Method 4: Paste the link and let it listen

Copy the set's link and paste it into the finder for its platform. We look the set up online first, then listen to it in 30-second windows and name the songs we hear. On a plan, each song matched in the audio also shows the time it starts.

Your first scan is free when capacity allows and shows the first 3 tracks it names.

Can you Shazam an entire DJ set?

Not in one go. Shazam identifies the songs playing around you one at a time, so a set means keeping Auto Shazam listening for as long as the set plays, and the blends between tracks are where it misses. A link finder works from the set's audio instead of the room. On CrateWire your first scan is free when capacity allows and shows the first 3 tracks it names; on a plan a scan keeps listening as far as the month's minutes allow.

Why Shazam misses songs in a DJ set

Shazam is built, in its own words, to identify songs playing around you. A DJ set rarely plays a song as released: tracks are pitched, looped, layered over the next one and talked over, and the blends are where a match is hardest.

For the long version, read why Shazam struggles on DJ sets. To compare the tools that take a set's link, see the DJ set tracklist finders compared.

Frequently asked questions

Can Shazam identify songs in a DJ mix?
One at a time. Shazam identifies the songs playing around you, so it works on a mix when one track plays clean and loud, and misses during blends, pitched sections and talking. For a long set, Auto Shazam keeps it listening, or paste the set's link into a finder that listens to the recording itself.
How do I turn on Auto Shazam?
Open the Shazam app and touch and hold the Shazam button. On Android you then choose single result or continuous mode and tap Confirm. In the Shazam app for Mac, double-click the Shazam button at the top of your list of songs. Tap or click the button again to turn it off.
How do I Shazam a song on YouTube without a second phone?
Use recognition on the computer playing it. On a Mac, Recognize Music in Control Center listens to what plays through the speakers or your headphones. In Chrome, Shazam's browser extension identifies songs from your web browser.
Can you Shazam a SoundCloud mix?
Song by song, if you play it out loud near Shazam or on a computer with recognition turned on, and the blends are where it misses. To get the songs named from the link instead, paste it into the SoundCloud song finder, which listens to the mix for you and names what it matches.
Is there an app that gives the tracklist of a DJ set?
Several tools take a set's link and return a tracklist; they differ in the links they accept and what they charge. See the DJ set tracklist finders compared, read from each tool's own pages.
Why do some songs in a set have no name?
Because some songs are in no catalog yet: unreleased tracks, edits and promos, which DJs label ID. No recognizer can name those from the sound, and the first scan lists only the songs it can name, so a set of unreleased music can come back with few names or none. On a plan, the tracklist also keeps the unnamed tracks with the time each one starts, so you know where to ask.
